The ReelAbilities Columbus Disabilities Film Festival seeks a part-time contractor to develop education materials which enhance the festival-going experience for students and lifelong learners. The Consultant will develop Teacher Resource Guides and Program Notes for distribution to audiences, based on direction from VSAO staff and the ReelAbilities Planning Committee. 

Teacher Resource Guides will be distributed in advance of the festival to educators who may be interested in bringing their students to participate in the free Monday Matinee. Program Notes will be included in daily event programs distributed to attendees throughout the festival. Education materials will be developed to provide a deeper understanding of ReelAbilities films, disability, and associated cultural programming components. The consultant will be responsible for organizing the material in a visually attractive and concise manner. The Teacher Resource Guide and Program Notes will become property of VSA Ohio and posted on our website for reference after the festival. Consultant will be credited on the final products.

Consultant will be expected to attend at least one ReelAbilities Planning Committee Meeting. Resource Guides must be finalized by September 3, 2013; Program Notes and teacher evaluation must be finalized by September 13, 2013.

ReelAbilities: NY Disabilities Film Festival is the largest festival of its kind worldwide. The Festival is dedicated to promoting awareness and appreciation of the lives and artistic visions of people with different abilities through dramatic and documentary films, as well as engaging panels and other arts programming. In addition to the flagship festival in NY, the festival is in 13 major US cities. Columbus was the 9th city selected to host. The ReelAbilities Columbus Disabilities Film Festival will be October 4 – 7, 2013 and is expected to include over 30 partners, serve 1,000 attendees, and reach over 500,000 through marketing and outreach efforts.

The contractor will be paid a flat rate of $2,000 to develop a Teacher Resource Guide, accompanying evaluation for distribution to educators, and Program Notes for six films.

_demonstrated knowledge of Ohio’s Academic Content Standards;
_demonstrated experience developing curriculum guides and surveys;
_capacity to write content and design layout for final product;
_shared interest in advancing ReelAbilities Film Festival mission;
_previous knowledge of film and disability studies a plus.
