This is the first time Columbus and VSA Ohio will present a disability film festival. Venues include the Columbus Museum of Art, Arena Grand Movie Theatre, OSU Urban Arts Space, King Arts Complex, and Ohio Historical Society. A full schedule, trailers, tickets and more information is available at Columbus.ReelAbilities.org.

Tickets can be purchased by credit card, online at Columbus.reelabilities.org or with check or cash by contacting VSA Ohio at 614.241.5325. Last week, our community lost a fabulous artist and amazing person. The folks over at Open Door wrote a beautiful eulogy for Elaine Gaines, an artist who passed away. Elaine was well known throughout Ohio for her abstract works of art and was a contributor to the Accessible Expressions Ohio exhibition.

Stop motion is an animation technique to make a physically manipulated object appear to move on its own. The object is moved in small increments between individually photographed frames, creating the illusion of movement when a series of frames is played in a continuous sequence. Learn the basics of stop-motion animation film making during this free, hands-on workshop led by the Itty Bitty Studio. Participants will work in small groups to develop their own short films, which will be screened for one another at the end of the workshop. All technology will be provided – all you have to bring is your creativity and enthusiasm.

Individuals and artists often take for granted their ability to hold and move a paint brush, position a canvas, or even view their creations. The opportunity for individuals with physical and mobility impairments to express themselves through visual art can be easily enhanced and possible by creating adaptive art-making materials. This workshop will provide attendees with exposure to different ways of adjusting art-making tools so participants of all ages and abilities can be included in the creative process.
